Alliyah’s PosterPosted by lowerkersal in Eco Work, Whole School News & Events, tags: Eco, Making a positive contribution, rubbish collectionAs a result of one of our Student Council meetings, Alliyah decided to design a poster to help encourage children to use our rubbish bins a bit more. Our Council has noticed that not everyone is using the bins as much as they used to, however they felt this was because we don’t have enough bins spread out across the playground. Thinking this was a great idea Mr Ashton put in an order for some bright new bins and Alliyah went off to make her poster. The Council have also organised some extra litter-picking sessions to help things get back to how they used to be. Our Eco Committee are also looking at why so much rubbish is being found on our playgrounds at the minute…could there be gaps in our fence where crisp packets and other bits or rubbish are getting in?

Firefighters visit the NurseryPosted by lowerkersal in LKPS Nursery, Uncategorized, tags: fire brigade salford, people who help usNursery had some very special visitors last week! The fire brigade from Broughton came to talk to us about the very special job they do. The firemen arrived in their fire engine and the blue lights were flashing! They let us have a go at the hose pipe and showed us inside the fire engine. Miss Mckeever got to try on their uniform and Mrs Guilfoyle got to drive the fire engine (only pretend though!) We had lots of fun and would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the firemen at Broughton fire station, we had a great time a learnt a lot! You do a FANTASTIC job!

Mr Scroop is one scary teacher!Posted by lowerkersal in LKPS Year 1, tags: creative curriculum, victorian teacher
Year 1 had a visit from a Victorian school teacher and he was very strict – he kept wanting to smack us with a ruler!!! Mrs Lennon had to stop him! This morning saw another of our parents and carers workshops in Reception. The children invited their grown ups to come into class to learn and play with them!!! (How much fun is that!) All the grown ups that came had a great time and learnt a lot about phonics themselves as well as how to help their children at home.
We are very lucky to have a couple of sets of some special ‘Phonic Bags’ as these bags inclue a wide variety of activities, stories, games and songs to help children learn phonics at school and at home…. YES AT HOME.
After having a change to play with the bags in school, both the grown ups and the children know all about these bags and will be allowed to take one home each week to play with and learn. We just hope the grown ups let the children have a chance to play too.
A big thank you to everyone who was able to make it today and for leaving us some really great feedback. We hope that you enjoy using the bags at home and we look forward to seeing you in class next time.
Mrs Wakefield & Mrs Casson x x Year 5 worked together collaboratively on making a 3D model of the water cycle. Everyone had a part to play in making this model. Some made raindrop mobiles to hang from clouds, others made the mountains and the sea. Some made the sun, others the sky. At the end of the session all of the pieces were brought together to create the final model. We think that it looks very good. The children also learnt a lot about the water cycle whilst making their model.

Our EYFS would lik to say a huge THANK YOU to Mr Kraja for giving up his time over a weekend to help improve our EYFS shelter. Thanks to his AMAZING work our shelter is now much warmer and even has windows in it! We think Mr Kraja is very kind and very clever! School would also like to thank Mr Hemmings for making sure that the school was opened on this day to allow this work to take place. We are a very lucky school.

Playground Gift MysteryPosted by lowerkersal in Whole School News & Events, tags: school playground
Today there was much excitement in our playground! Children discovered that a box filled with toys and books had been left on our Buddy Bench. On the box was a small note. It read “We are unwanted and unloved toys and books. Please give us a new home.” It reminded us of Toy Story! We felt sorry for the toys and books and wanted to help! At first we were a little worried that it might be a trick, but more and more of us realised that it wasn’t and that we could take one thing home with us! Tonight there are many toys and books in brand new homes thanks to the mysterious gift-giver who left the box in our playground!
